Gynecologic Oncology

Listen to Dr. Sybilann Williams explain what gynecologic oncology is and how CTCA offers specialized treatments for patients with gynecologic cancers, such as ovarian cancer.

The Gynecologic Oncology Program at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center (Midwestern) specializes in treating women with cancer of the reproductive organs, including cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.

Dr. Sybilann Williams, an experienced gynecologic oncologist, leads this exceptional program. She is a critical member of our gynecologic cancer patients’ care teams. The advantages of receiving care from Dr. Williams include:

Expertise – Dr. Williams has spent a number of years diagnosing and treating gynecologic cancer.

Continuous care – As a gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Williams is qualified to treat gynecologic malignancies both surgically and medically (e.g., with chemotherapy).

Comfort and compassion – Dr. Williams encourages her patients to talk openly about their concerns and ask questions. Also, Dr. Williams’ patients say they feel comfortable receiving gynecologic care from her because she is a female practitioner.

Surgical staging and treatment – Dr. Williams is a skilled surgeon who can perform procedures to remove gynecologic tumors, as well as to help determine the stage of the cancer (e.g., lymph node biopsies). Surgical staging allows her to decide which treatments may be most effective in eradicating cancer.

Access to and experience in providing innovative treatments – One such treatment CTCA offers is intraperitoneal chemotherapy. This method of delivering chemotherapy may be an option for ovarian cancer patients. With intraperitoneal chemotherapy, the treatment is administered into the patient’s abdominal cavity to directly target cancerous cells in that area.
