As a nurse practitioner in the Radiation Oncology Department, Guy Torres helps to evaluate and monitor patients who are undergoing radiation therapy at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. He works alongside radiation oncologists Dr. Bernard Eden, Dr. Sung Chang and Dr. Kamal Patel. Additionally, he works under the direction of hospitalist Dr. Steven Sabath to help manage patients’ specific medical conditions while they are receiving radiation therapy.
Much of Torres’ time is spent meeting with patients face to face to educate and counsel them about radiation therapy. Before patients begin radiation therapy, Torres explains the treatment process and covers what to expect during and after the radiation therapy. He also addresses any concerns patients and their families have about the treatment.
In addition, Torres helps patients in the midst of their treatment manage symptoms and side effects they may be experiencing. He also provides follow-up care once they have completed radiation treatment.
Torres attended North Park University in Chicago, where he earned a master of science degree in nursing to become an adult nurse practitioner. He is certified as an adult nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Additionally, he is certified to provide advanced cardiac life support.
Prior to joining CTCA in 2007, Torres worked as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois.
