"To me, patient empowered care is a form of healthcare that acknowledges the importance of a patient’s involvement in his or her own health. There is something indescribably rewarding and fulfilling about teaching people how to take an active role in their health."
Vanessa Lee, ND
Naturopathic Oncology Provider
“Naturopathic medicine appeals to me because it incorporates a holistic view of health and merges that with the scientific side of healthcare,” says Vanessa Lee, a naturopathic oncology provider at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center.
Lee joined our integrated team of cancer experts at CTCA in December 2011. She strongly believes it is her role to provide an environment where patients feel free to express their concerns, be heard and feel their care comes first.
Lee believes the Patient Empowered Care® model used at CTCA allows for a greater scope of care and understanding, putting the patient at the forefront of his or her care. She is one member of a larger support network provided to CTCA patients that includes physicians, naturopaths, dietitians, nurse navigators, care managers, as well as many other clinicians.
“CTCA embraces naturopathic medicine and other evidence-based therapies that support patients’ quality of life,” adds Lee. “Patients receive medical treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy in conjunction with these supportive therapies. And, CTCA acknowledges the importance of mental-emotional support for patients.”
Lee earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario and a bachelor of science degree in cell and molecular biology from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Lee is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
Prior to CTCA, Lee and her husband Erik Boudreau owned and practiced in a busy naturopathic clinic in downtown Toronto, Ontario, applying skills and knowledge in therapies such as traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy and Reiki therapy.
Outside of CTCA, she enjoys spending time with her husband and creating pottery.
