Subhasis Misra, MD, MS at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center

Dr. Subhasis Misra believes the patient-doctor relationship is a very sacred one that involves trust and faith. He emphasizes, “Patients are not mere statistics, but individuals who deserve the best possible care that caters to their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.”

As a surgical oncologist at our cancer hospital in Illinois, Dr. Misra works with a team of oncologists and other clinicians to provide comprehensive cancer treatment. He performs advanced surgery for cancers of the liver, pancreas, esophagus, stomach, and colon, including Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy procedures, as well as surgery for other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Additionally he performs complex surgical procedures to treat breast cancer, sarcoma, melanoma, and endocrine tumors.

“I believe medicine is a team event, and that a team always achieves more success than the individuals it comprises, says Dr. Misra. “And, I am a strong believer that through more sustained, quality research we can hope to find a cure for cancer and also make meaningful decisions about clinical care.”

Dr. Misra provides his patients with easy-to-understand information about their disease and treatment options. He strives to give patients the confidence to make the best possible decisions about their care. He also supports them during their decision-making process and respects their choices.

Dr. Misra earned a degree in medicine and surgery from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, India. He completed a general surgery internship at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, and a general surgery residency at Fairview Hospital/Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio where he served as the Chief Resident. Following his residency, Dr. Misra completed a surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.

Additionally, Dr. Misra holds a master’s degree in health systems management from Rush University in Chicago.

Dr. Misra has been honored with the Prasanta K Raj Surgical Excellence and Innovation Award. He was also named as Surgical Resident of the Year in 2007 by Akron Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Misra has been published extensively in publications such as the Journal of Surgical Oncology and Surgical Endoscopy. He has also presented at numerous clinical conferences. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology and several other professional associations.

Family is extremely important to Dr. Misra. He enjoys a busy life with his wife (who is a family medicine physician) and their beautiful, little girl. Dr. Misra also likes reading and sports, and has a passion for quality improvement, leadership and understanding human behavior.
