Naturopathic oncology provider Scott Woodworth feels strongly about the idea of Patient Empowered Care® and has practiced that philosophy for years prior to coming to Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). He says, “I empower patients to be involved in their care. I make every effort to make sure they fully understand each naturopathic recommendation I make, what its benefits and side effects are, and how it works. I believe it is critical for patients to understand all aspects of the recommendations in order for them to fully embrace each recommendation and follow through on it.”
Woodworth understands how difficult it is to know which vitamins, minerals and herbal medicines are best to take when you have cancer. He notes, “While the Internet can be a wonderful thing, it can be overwhelming for a cancer patient searching for accurate information about natural therapies that are safe to take.”
That’s where Woodworth and the other members of our naturopathic medicine team at CTCA at Midwestern Regional Medical Center step in to provide evidence-based knowledge about natural therapies that can help cancer patients experience a better quality of life during cancer treatment.
Woodworth works with many of our cancer patients to develop a manageable, safe and comprehensible naturopathic treatment plan tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
“I take pride in being able to communicate well with my patients,” says Woodworth. “I support and coach patients with their nutritional supplement needs and answer any questions they may have.”
Before joining CTCA in May 2011, Woodworth worked in integrated healthcare practices for a number of years. He says, “I have always believed in the ‘power of many’ when it comes to healthcare and believe that no one practitioner can know everything he or she needs to know to be able to treat every patient in a complete and holistic manner. CTCA fully embraces this integrated practice philosophy that I enjoy practicing in.”
Woodworth earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario. He received a bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
A Canadian native, Woodworth enjoys the great outdoors and spending time with his dog Ben. He enjoys fly fishing, golfing and mountain biking.
