"This place has something you can feel when you walk in the door. It’s different from other hospitals in every way imaginable. It really is a place for healing."
Marlene Brown
Reiki Therapist
Since 2005, Reiki master practitioner Marlene Brown has worked at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. Brown, a member of the Mind-Body Medicine team, loves coming to the hospital two days a week to provide the holistic therapy of Reiki to patients and caregivers.
As a Reiki therapist, Brown helps patients and caregivers relax in addition to restoring and balancing their energy within. To administer Reiki therapy, she lightly touches or rests her hands slightly above areas of the body. This stimulates a positive flow of energy. Reiki therapy can reduce stress and treatment side effects such as fatigue and nausea. It may also promote immune response and healthier circulatory functioning.
Always curious about natural remedies, Brown studied holistic medicine and made it part of her personal healthcare. Before pursuing a degree in holistic medicine, Brown received a bachelor’s degree in education from Northeastern Illinois University. For a number of years, she was a grade school substitute teacher, piano teacher and private tutor.
For 15 years, Brown has practiced Reiki therapy and taught Yoga classes in the local community. She is a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals.
