"I love getting to know each of my patients, hearing their stories and finding out how I can best help them. Developing a relationship with each patient is very important to me."
Khara Lucius, ND
Naturopathic Oncology Provider
As a member of Dr. Rakhshanda Neelam’s care team, naturopathic oncology provider Khara Lucius provides recommendations for natural therapies such as vitamins, minerals and herbs that are safe to take in conjunction with chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. Her goal is to help each patient achieve the best level of health possible.
Lucius notes, “I look for the root cause of any problems patients are experiencing, and try to address issues from the ground up. I also individualize treatment so that every patient has a plan that is specific to his or her personal needs. Some people need help with lifestyle issues, or sleep, or improving their energy levels. Whatever the patient’s concern is, I take that into account when making recommendations.”
“Cancer patients commonly deal with side effects from their treatment, so I make recommendations to reduce side effects,” she says. “It can make their day-to-day life better and help them to more comfortably complete treatment.”
Lucius is proud to work alongside oncologists and other care providers at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. She says, “We truly have a team-based environment, which can lead to better care for our patients. All of the members of our integrated team collaborate to put together the best possible plan for each patient.”
Lucius earned a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona. She received a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Prior to joining the staff at our Illinois hospital in April 2011, Lucius practiced general naturopathic medicine in Manchester, New Hampshire for six years.
Lucius has served as a member of the New Hampshire State Board of Naturopathic Examiners, as well as a member of the continuing education committee for the New Hampshire Association of Naturopathic Doctors. She belongs to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the American College for Advancement in Medicine.
Lucius devotes her time outside of work to her husband and young son. They love to go hiking and camping as a family. She also enjoys yoga and playing the cello.
