“Patient comfort and quality of life are at the heart of what I do,” says Daina Mallard. “I actively listen to patients’ concerns and provide well researched answers to their questions. I encourage patients to use the information provided to set attainable goals that will improve their nutritional health and overall well-being.”

A registered and licensed dietitian, Mallard works alongside Dr. Sybilann Williams and other clinicians to care for gynecologic cancer patients at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center.

She says, “I enjoy the personal relationships I am privileged to build with patients and their caregivers. It is a pleasure to work with, and learn from, the members of our Patient Empowered Care® team.”

Mallard helps patients manage treatment side effects that can affect their daily dietary intake. She works with each patient to provide meal and snack options that promote healthy weight management and aid in relief of nausea, limited appetite and other symptoms.

“My goals are to optimize my patients’ nutrition status during treatment, manage vitamin/mineral deficiencies and provide nutrition recommendations that encourage long-term wellness,” emphasizes the dietitian, who joined CTCA in May 2010.

Mallard completed a dietetic internship at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. She is an alumnus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a master’s degree in nutritional sciences. While at the university, Mallard was a recipient of the Kraft Human Nutrition Graduate Fellowship. She worked as a graduate research assistant for the Department of Kinesiology and Community Health, studying the effects of nutrient intake on bone health and body composition. As an undergraduate, she served as a student athletic trainer.

She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Illinois Dietetic Association and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

In her spare time, Mallard enjoys running, yoga, watching movies, road trips, and spending time with loved ones. She is an avid sports fan, especially of basketball and baseball.
