"Every day I feel honored to be a part of my patients’ lives and that of their families. It means so much to me personally to be able to help them throughout their journeys."

Christina Shannon, ND
Clinical Director of Naturopathic Medicine

Christina Shannon serves as Clinical Director of Naturopathic Medicine at Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Midwestern Regional Medical Center. Her role includes heading up the hospital’s team of naturopathic oncology providers and leading the department’s research initiatives.

Shannon cherishes her relationships with patients. She notes, “It is important that I get to know my patients in order to understand the larger picture. This relationship creates a foundation so that I can then make the best naturopathic recommendations for each individual.”

By listening closely to her patients as they describe how they are feeling, Shannon is able to better understand what they are experiencing, including symptoms and side effects. This helps her to design a naturopathic treatment plan that’s unique to each person. The natural therapies she recommends help decrease the side effects of conventional cancer treatments and aid in the process of fighting the disease. The vitamins, minerals, homeopathic medicines, and botanicals she prescribes aim to support patients’ overall health so that they feel better during and after cancer treatment.

She adds, “Current research now supports the long tradition of naturopathic medicine that the human body functions as a network of interconnected systems. I have a deep understanding of how these connections work. I use this training and expertise to help support my patients on many different levels—physically, emotionally and spiritually.”

Shannon’s experience in caring for cancer patients began at TLC Medicine, LLC, a privately held naturopathic practice she founded in Norwalk, Connecticut. At TLC, Shannon specialized in providing natural healthcare to women and children. Her patients included women who were undergoing treatment for breast cancer and gynecologic malignancies.

She has also served as an adjunct faculty member at the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy in Westport and the Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Shannon received her education and training in naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington, where she earned a doctorate degree. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree from the State University of New York in New York City.

Shannon is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

She encourages patients to always have hope, emphasizing, “Hope is important for every individual, and hope is very individual. Hope can encompass many aspects, such as patients’ wishes for the future, their faith and their desire for family members. It is part of the human experience. It is important to honor this and foster it through caring relationships.”
