"I enjoy meeting people where they are at nutritionally, and working together with them to make a realistic nutrition plan to improve their overall diet quality to support them during treatment."

Anna Torpe, RD, LDN, CNSC, CSO
Clinical Oncology Dietitian

“I truly enjoy working for an organization that makes caring for the whole person the main goal and driving force,” says Anna Torpe, a registered and licensed dietitian at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center (Midwestern).

Torpe provides nutrition consultations and medical nutrition therapy to new and returning patients at Midwestern. The focus of each patient’s consult is formulating personalized nutrition goals to encourage an overall healthy diet that includes cancer-fighting foods. Torpe also identifies and begins to address nutrition deficiencies and treatment side effects that impact nutrition.

Torpe says of her role on the nutrition metabolic support team, “I meet with patients at each return visit. This allows me to form relationships with patients, stay informed of the latest developments in their care, and help guide and support them nutritionally through each step of the treatment process.”

“All foods can fit into a healthful eating plan, it’s the proportions that matter most,” Torpe says of her philosophy on food and nutrition. The dietitian believes there are positive and healthful components to every diet that can be maximized by making small, maintainable changes.

Board certified in oncology nutrition and nutrition support, Torpe earned a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from Northern Illinois University. She completed a dietetic internship through Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For the internship, she did clinical rotations at medical, academic and community facilities in Southeast Wisconsin. Torpe is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, of which she serves on the dietetic practice group for oncology nutrition.

While working toward her undergraduate degree, Torpe spent four summers working at Midwestern gaining field experience. She assisted the nutrition metabolic support and food services teams. She became a full-time, staff dietitian at the hospital in July 2009. Since then, she has been a member of a dedicated care team that includes a medical oncologist, naturopathic provider and care manager. The team meets daily to address patient concerns and work together to manage every aspect of a patient’s treatment.

Outside of Midwestern, Torpe enjoys biking, hiking, camping, and spending time with her husband and family.
