Melanoma Treatment: Surgery
For all stages of melanoma, surgery is the primary treatment. Experienced, highly skilled surgical oncologists and surgeons at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) regularly perform procedures to remove melanoma tumors. They may also remove the lymph node the cancer is likely to spread to in a procedure known as a sentinel lymph node biopsy.
In some cases, CTCA oncologists may also recommend that patients receive chemotherapy treatments following surgery to remove the melanoma. This helps to ensure that any remaining cancer cells are killed off.
