Melanoma Extreme Drug Resistance Test
The Extreme Drug Resistance (EDR) Assay (also called “chemoresistance”) helps doctors at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) determine whether certain types of chemotherapeutic drugs may be able to effectively treat melanoma.
A highly accurate test for solid melanoma tumors, EDR tests assess whether a particular tumor may be resistant to a specific chemo drug. By testing melanoma cells to see if they grow in the presence of extreme exposure to a drug, our doctors can then predict how a tumor growing in a patient’s body is likely to respond to that drug. With this valuable information, we can avoid unnecessary toxicity and consider other protocols for melanoma treatment.
