The National Cancer Institute states about one-third of cancer deaths are related to malnutrition. Proper nutrition is extremely important for those diagnosed with cancer because cancer can deplete vital nutrients your body needs. We will work side by side with you to create an individualized lymphoma treatment plan to prevent malnutrition so your body can focus on healing.
The first step we take in developing your individual nutrition plan is to perform a nutrition assessment. Our nutrition assessment may include:
- Laboratory Blood Analysis - this analysis will tell us what your protein stores are and the current status of your immune system
- Nutrition Overview & Medical History - this will provide our team with insight into your food preferences, the status of your digestive system and any potential complications
- Diet Profile - a computerized three-day intake analysis you complete
- Nutrition Anthropometrics - body measurements are done to determine what your body fat percentage is and if you have lost any lean tissue
- Calorimetry (indirect) - calorie requirements are measured using a breathing test
- Nitrogen Balance - we will measure protein loss to determine if your body is utilizing protein appropriately
Once your assessment has been completed, you will discuss your diet with one of our registered dietitians. This person will work with you to develop an individualized meal plan to ensure you eat foods that will provide optimal nutrition. We will also place you on vitamin and mineral supplements to help provide nutrients that your diet may not give you enough of. If for some reason you are unable to eat or digest food, we have the ability to provide it parenterally (through a vein) or enterally (using a feeding tube). CTCA is here to support you in any way we can. You can rest easy knowing that every decision made by you and your CTCA care team, will be an educated one.
Pain Management is another crucial piece of your overall care. Unfortunately, those battling advanced cancer usually experience pain. We know that pain can be debilitating and can also diminish your quality of life. CTCA will work with you to identify the pain so it can be successfully managed. Every person handles pain differently. That is why we will formulate a lymphoma cancer treatment plan to specifically treat your pain and make your fight against cancer as comfortable as possible.
The main goal of the Naturopathic Medicine treatment plan we offer is to maintain your physical well-being.
