Lung Cancer Survivors & Stories from Patients

Learn More About CTCA Lung Cancer Patients: Chat with Us | Email Us

At Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), we believe one of the best ways to learn about lung cancer, and also what makes our cancer care different, is to listen to the experiences of our patients. In this section, you’ll find compelling, personal stories from lung cancer survivors who received comprehensive lung cancer treatment from our care team of cancer experts. These specialists from several fields - including pulmonologists and medical, surgical and radiation oncologists - worked closely together to create and implement a customized, lung cancer treatment plan for each patient.

What Is Lung Cancer?

There are two primary types of lung cancer: small cell and non-small cell lung cancer. Furthermore, lung cancer is broken down into stages that indicate the extent of the cancer and how far it has spread. The staging process is important because it can help doctors determine the options available to treat the lung cancer.

“In the beginning, I had no knowledge of what cancer was, or how it was going to affect me. Once I started to see all of the evidence, technology and people that were there to help me and offer every possible method for me to get through it, there was hope. I saw how hard everyone at CTCA was working for me and I wasn’t about to let them down. I was determined to complete my treatment plan.”

"My cancer journey with CTCA began almost 13 years ago. I initially went to CTCA because I liked the idea of nutritional counseling as part of my treatment for advanced lung cancer. I have remained with CTCA for all my treatment and checkups because I have total confidence in the quality of care I receive there and because they always offer me hope."

“My team walked me through every stage of my treatment. Everyone held my hand. Whatever I needed, they were by my side during this journey, and they still are. Once every three months, I return to CTCA for follow-up. I have CT scans and lab work done right there. They get all of the results back within a day. All of my test results are in a shared computer system. That way, everyone on my team is on the same page. It helps so that I don’t have to repeat myself as I see different team members. My doctor sees it, naturopath, and so on. And whoever sees me, notes in my record whatever they recommended to me. They also review how I’m eating, and monitor my weight and vitamin D level.”
