3D Conformal Radiation for Lung Cancer
Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy allows the radiation oncologists at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) to sculpt radiation beams exactly to the shape of a tumor. This is ideal for tumors that have irregular shapes or that lay close to healthy tissues and organs, as is often the case in lung cancer.
Using a CT scanner, your radiation oncologist is able to view the tumor and nearby healthy organs and tissues in three dimensions. Radiation beams from several directions match the tumor’s unique dimension in height, width and depth.
As a result, your radiation oncologist is able to limit radiation exposure to surrounding tissues, while delivering the maximum dose of radiation to the lung tumor.
