Nutrition Therapy for Liver Cancer
Many patients receiving liver cancer treatments experience nutritional imbalance because of loss of appetite, fatigue, and decrease in digestive function.
The nutrition therapy team at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) is dedicated to helping you stay strong and nutritionally balanced, so you can maintain your quality of life while fighting the disease.
Every liver cancer patient is scheduled to meet with a registered dietitian during their first visit to CTCA. During this visit, you are given a full assessment to identify daily goals for calories and protein. Your dietitian will look at your health history, disease state, and treatment plan to help you develop your individualized meal plan and recommend nourishing foods during your cancer care.
Your dietitian will monitor your nutrition status from the beginning to the end of your liver cancer treatment, making modifications as needed to prevent malnutrition, minimize side effects and treatment interruptions, and enhance your overall well-being.
For liver cancer patients who are undergoing aggressive liver cancer treatments and are not able to meet their nutrition needs orally, the nutrition therapy team will provide alternative options, including intravenous (through the vein) nutrition and feeding tubes.
The nutrition team at CTCA actively partners with our naturopathic clinicians to further boost the immune system and manage side effects of liver cancer treatment. The teams collaborate to provide you with vitamin and mineral supplements, such as carotene, selenium, vitamin C, and vitamin E to support optimal digestion and nutrition.
Our nutrition therapy team will also provide education about healthy eating habits to your caregivers and family members, so you can continue a healthy lifestyle after you return home.
