3D Conformal Radiation for Liver Cancer Treatment
Three-dimensional (3-D) conformal radiation therapy is an innovative new radiation therapy that is being used to treat liver cancer at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). This type of treatment uses computed tomography (CT) planning to reconstruct liver cancer tumors and the surrounding tissue in 3-D.
This computer technology allows the physician to see with micro-level detail and clarity, and acquire data with incredible speed. By understanding the exact shape and location of your tumor, our expert physicians can precisely focus multiple radiation beams to the tumor’s exact contour (i.e., width, height, and depth); sparing the nearby, normal liver tissue. Because the healthy tissue surrounding the tumor is largely spared by this technique, higher doses of radiation can be used to treat the cancer.
