Total Marrow Irradiation for Leukemia
CTCA cancer experts offer leukemia patients an innovative form of Total Body Irradiation (TBI) called Total Marrow Irradiation (TMI). TMI is commonly used for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation.
This radiation therapy allows us to deliver precisely focused radiation to the major marrow sites where the leukemia cells reside. Marrow is the soft, sponge-like tissue found inside most bones.
TMI targets the radiation dosage to the skeletal bone structure, helping to improve recovery time and reduce radiation exposure to healthy organs.
When used before a stem cell transplant, TMI can help the body make room for new, healthy bone marrow cells and help prevent the body’s rejection of the donated stem cells.
