Then, we go even further and supplement those treatments with complementary and alternative therapies, such as nutrition therapy and naturopathic medicine.

The following is a brief summary of some general leukemia symptoms. This page also includes information about potential leukemia symptoms for specific types of leukemia.

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with leukemia and would like to learn more about our innovative approach to treating cancer, call CTCA at 1-800-615-3055. Our Oncology Information Specialists are here for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Do you have any of these leukemia symptoms?

Although leukemia symptoms vary from person to person, there are some common leukemia symptoms to look out for. Below is a list of possible leukemia symptoms. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you should visit your doctor.

  • Fever, chills, and other flu-like symptoms
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Tiny red spots under the skin (petechiae)
  • Sweating (especially at night)
  • Headache
  • Frequent infections
  • Bleeding or bruising easily
  • Pain in the bones or joints
  • Swelling or discomfort in the abdomen
  • Anemia
  • Other leukemia symptoms

Often, the above leukemia symptoms are the result of something other than leukemia. An infection or another problem could also cause these symptoms. Only your doctor can make this determination.

Chronic and Acute Leukemia Symptoms

One type of leukemia is called chronic leukemia. Chronic leukemia symptoms develop slowly and are vague. Often times, chronic leukemia symptoms resemble a number of other, less serious medical conditions. Chronic leukemia can cause symptoms in the skin, digestive tract, kidneys, testicles and/or central nervous system. Fatigue and fever are two of the most common leukemia symptoms. Other possible leukemia symptoms include unexplained weight loss and/or night sweats.

In acute leukemia, symptoms appear and get worse more quickly. Some acute leukemia symptoms include sores in the eyes or on the skin, swelling of the testicles, headaches, loss of muscle control, vomiting, confusion and seizures. There are other acute leukemia symptoms. Please follow the links on this page to learn more about leukemia and leukemia symptoms.
