I was diagnosed in December 2006 with cancer of the right vocal cord by a physician in Oklahoma City. I was told I would have to start radiation treatments, Monday through Friday, for seven weeks. This consisted of 75 miles roundtrip, five times a week for treatments, and nothing more.
There was definitely no love, caring or compassion in what my husband James and I were looking at. My daughter Alicia saw a television ad for Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). She immediately called us and said we should check it out. I was so discouraged with everything that I did not even want to call.
Alicia called and talked to an Oncology Information Specialist at CTCA. The information specialist called us right back and told us all about CTCA. We decided to visit and see for ourselves.
We came to CTCA at Southwestern Regional Medical Center on January 17, 2007 to visit and check it out. All of the things that were not in Oklahoma City were here at CTCA in Tulsa.
The staff is top shelf! Everyone we came in contact with seemed to enjoy their job very much. We were welcomed with open arms and a hug before the tour even started. This care helped us both to make up our minds to let CTCA treat me for my cancer.
At a time in our lives when we were scared by the word “cancer,” CTCA gave us hope and encouragement that it could be beaten.
