Laryngeal Cancer Treatment: Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy uses penetrating X-rays, gamma rays or radioactive seeds to destroy or shrink laryngeal cancer cells. One of the three traditional, primary forms of laryngeal cancer treatment used at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), radiation therapy may also be used to help relieve laryngeal cancer symptoms.
Depending on where and how laryngeal cancer occurs in your body, radiation therapy may be the sole form of conventional laryngeal cancer treatment you receive at CTCA. Or, it may be combined with chemotherapy or surgery. Radiation therapy can often be used to shrink the size of a laryngeal tumor before surgery, or to help destroy any cancerous cells that remain after surgery or chemotherapy treatments.
From 3D conformal radiation to High-Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy, CTCA cancer hospitals are equipped with the latest radiation therapy delivery technology to aid in your fight against laryngeal cancer. These advanced radiation techniques allow our radiation oncologists and their treatment teams to deliver highly targeted doses of radiation therapy to laryngeal cancer cells. Furthermore, these techniques allow us to avoid harm to healthy tissues that surround laryngeal tumors.
