Laryngeal Cancer Treatment: Chemotherapy
Another conventional form of treatment for laryngeal cancer is the use of "anticancer drugs," which are also known as chemotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs work by destroying laryngeal cancer cells directly, or by diminishing their ability to grow and reproduce. Chemotherapy drugs are given intravenously, by injection or by mouth.
Depending on your stage of laryngeal cancer and other factors, chemotherapy may be recommended as a traditional treatment that can be used to help fight your cancer. It may be combined with other conventional treatments for laryngeal cancer. For example, chemotherapy is often used with surgery or radiation to treat areas where the laryngeal cancer has spread to or returned. It may also be used when there is a strong chance the laryngeal cancer could recur.
Chemotherapy treatments for laryngeal cancer often cause nausea, vomiting, hair loss and mouth sores. At CTCA, we continue to examine new chemotherapy protocols designed to help reduce the intensity and duration of side effects. These unique treatments can enable our patients to experience a better quality of life throughout their laryngeal cancer treatment.
