Laryngeal Cancer Treatment: 3D Conformal Radiation
Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy is an innovative radiation technique offered for laryngeal cancer treatment at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). Useful for the reduction of side effects, 3D conformal radiation allows CTCA radiation oncologists to better target radiation beams onto cancerous laryngeal tissue.
3D conformal radiation uses computed tomography (CT) planning to image and reconstruct cancerous laryngeal tumors and surrounding tissue in three dimensions. By isolating the exact shape and location of a tumor, multiple radiation beams can then be precisely sculpted to strike cancerous laryngeal tissue. Because the beams are so targeted, it helps us to avoid submitting radiation to surrounding, healthy tissue and organs.
