Tykerb® - The trade name for lapatinib, Tykerb® is a chemotherapy drug used in combination with another cancer drug called capectabine (Xeloda®), to treat advanced or metastatic breast cancer that is HER2 positive. About 20-25 percent of breast cancer tumors are HER2 (human epidermal growth factor receptor 2) positive, producing excess amounts of HER2 protein, which allows cancerous cells to grow even faster than normal. Tykerb® is normally recommended for patients who have already received prior therapy with an anthracycline, a taxane, and trastuzumab (Herceptin®).
