Thyroid Cancer - Cancer that begins in tissues of the thyroid gland. Located at the base of the throat beneath the larynx (voice box), the thyroid is an endocrine gland which produces hormones that regulate growth and metabolism. There are four main types of thyroid cancer: papillary (the most common), follicular, medullary, and anaplastic. Thyroid cancer mainly affects younger people between the ages of 20 and 55. Women are three times more likely to be diagnosed with thyroid cancer than men.
