Sinus Cancer - A type of head and neck cancer which begins in the tissues of the paranasal sinuses. There are several paranasal sinuses, which are the hollow, air-filled spaces in the bones around the nose. Together, the paranasal sinuses and the nasal cavity (the inside of the nose) serve to filter, warm, and moisten the air before it travels down into the lungs. The most common form of paranasal sinus cancer is squamous cell carcinoma (which begins in the thin, flat cells that line the inside of the paranasal sinuses). A common risk factor for paranasal sinus cancer includes exposure to certain chemicals in the workplace (e.g., wood or nickel dust inhalation). Also called paranasal sinus cancer.
