Recurrence - In medicine, recurrence refers to a disease or condition which recurs (or returns) in the body. Cancer is said to be recurrent if it resurfaces in the body after a period of time following treatment and remission (in which the cancer could not be detected). The cancer may come back to the same place as the original tumor (local recurrence), to the lymph nodes near the primary site (regional recurrence), or to distant organs or tissues (distant recurrence).
