Rectal Cancer - Cancer that begins in the tissues of the rectum. Part of the body's gastrointestinal (digestive) system, the rectum is the last several inches of the large intestine (or large bowel) before the anus. Similarly, cancer which begins in the colon (the first five feet of the large intestine) is called colon cancer. Cancer which forms in either the colon or rectum is known as colorectal cancer.
