Prostatectomy - A form of prostate cancer surgery which involves removal of part or all of the prostate gland. A radical (or total) prostatectomy is the surgical removal of the entire prostate, some surrounding tissue, and seminal vesicles. Two types of radical prostatectomy include a retropubic prostatectomy and perineal prostatectomy. The goal of a prostatectomy is to remove the cancer before it spreads to other areas in the body.
