Ovarian Cancer Treatment - Ovarian cancer treatment depends on a variety of factors unique to each individual, including the disease type and stage, tumor size and location, and the patient's age, overall health, and desire to have children. Surgery is a common ovarian cancer treatment option. Surgery may be used to diagnose and stage the cancer, to remove as much of the cancer as possible (e.g., debulking/cytoreduction surgery), or to ease pain and other symptoms (e.g., palliative surgery). Debulking may involve removing the ovaries (oophorectomy), uterus (hysterectomy), cervix, fallopian tubes (salpingectomy), omentum (a fold of fatty abdominal tissue), and nearby lymph nodes. Chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and biotherapy/ immunotherapy (e.g., hematopoietic growth factors) may also be used in ovarian cancer treatment.
