Oral Cancer Treatment - Treatment for oral cancer takes a variety of patient-specific factors into account. One common approach to oral cancer treatment is surgical removal of tumors and affected tissue in the mouth or throat (e.g., wide local excision, neck dissection, plastic surgery). Radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy may also be combined with surgery, or used alone. Local hyperthermia and targeted therapies are other potential oral cancer treatment options. Since the oral cavity is important for breathing, eating, and talking, a multidisciplinary team approach to oral cancer treatment is essential.
