Oat Cell Cancer - An aggressive form of carcinoma named for its small, oval-shaped cells which look like grains of oat under a microscope. Oat cell cancer is often associated synonymously with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), and usually originates in the large, central bronchi. However, it can also (more rarely) occur in the prostate gland. Oat cell cancer comprises about 20-25 percent of all cancers of the lung. The most common risk factor for oat cell cancer is prolonged exposure to tobacco.
