Neutropenia - An unusually low count of neutrophils in the blood. A type of white blood cell, neutrophils help the body fight disease and infection. A person with a low neutrophil count is considered to be neutropenic and at risk for infection. Neutropenia can indicate the presence of cancer in the body, as well as other disorders such as HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).
