Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma - A rare form of cancer that begins in the mesothelial tissue that lines the lungs, heart, abdominal cavity, and other internal organs. Mesothelioma is classified into different categories according to where it occurs. Pleural mesothelioma (which occurs in the lungs) accounts for the majority of mesotheliomas. Another form of mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma, begins in the abdomen. Most often found in men aged 65 or older, mesothelioma has been closely linked to prolonged asbestos exposure.
