Mesothelioma Symptoms - Mesothelioma symptoms vary, depending on factors like where the cancer occurs in the body. Shortness of breath, painful breathing, fluid build-up, dry cough, and unexplained weight loss are common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma (which occurs in the lungs). Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma (which occurs in the abdomen) may include abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, a change in bowel habits, and unexplained weight loss. Long linked to asbestos exposure, mesothelioma symptoms may not appear until 30 to 50 years after initial exposure. Because these symptoms could be the result of conditions other than mesothelioma, it is important to consult with a medical professional for an accurate diagnosis.
