Letrozole - The generic drug known by the brand name Femara®, letrozole is an oral medication used to treat some types of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. A type of hormone therapy, letrozole works to decrease the amount of estrogen that cancerous cells require in order to grow. Letrozole can be used to treat hormone receptor-positive metastatic or locally advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Letrozole is also indicated for use as an adjuvant (post-surgery) treatment, or an extended adjuvant therapy following tamoxifen treatment, for early stage breast cancer in postmenopausal women.
