Kidney Cancer - The development of malignant cells in the tissues of the kidneys (a pair of organs in the abdomen that remove waste from the blood). Kidney cancer is most prevalent in individuals between the ages of 55 and 84. The most common type of kidney cancer in adults is renal cell carcinoma (RCC), which forms in the cells that line the small tubes within the kidneys. Other types of kidney cancer include the following: transitional cell carcinomas, renal sarcomas, and Wilms' tumors (which usually develop in children under the age of five).
