Ixabepilone - The generic name for the brand name drug Ixempra™, ixabepilone is an IV
(intravenous) chemotherapy drug indicated for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic breast cancers. Ixabepilone is normally used to treat breast cancer tumors that have proven resistant or refractory to anthracyclines, taxanes, and capecitabine. A type of epothilone analog, ixabepilone works by binding to cancer cell microtubules (which give cancerous cells their supporting structure and also aid in cell division) to stop the growth of tumor cells. Also called BMS-247550.
