Invasive Cancer - Cancer that has spread beyond the primary tissue layer in which it initially formed and "invaded" nearby healthy tissue. An invasive cancer may increase the risk for developing metastatic cancer (cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, such as other organs). Invasive cancer, also called infiltrating cancer, is the opposite of in situ (or non-invasive) cancer.
