Hormone Therapy - A cancer treatment option that alters the body's own natural hormone levels to prevent cancer cells from getting the hormones they need (at the levels they need) to grow. A form of systemic therapy, hormone therapy works to add, block, or remove hormones from the body. Hormone therapy may be a treatment option for several different cancers, such as prostate cancer and breast cancer. For instance, synthetic hormones may be given to slow or stop the growth of cancer cells. Hormone therapy is also called hormonal therapy or endocrine therapy.
