Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colon Cancer - Also known as HNPCC and Lynch syndrome, hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer is a type of inherited gene mutation that affects the colon. People with HNPCC are more likely to develop polyps (small non-cancerous growths) in the colon, and have a higher-than-normal chance of developing colon cancer during their lifetime (usually before the age of 60). Genetic testing can help determine whether or not you have HNPCC, and are at risk for developing colon cancer and certain other types of cancer.
