Growth Factors - Substances made by the body that govern the behavior of cells. Growth factors are naturally-occurring proteins that serve as chemical messengers, telling cells when to divide and grow, as well as when to slow or stop. Some cancer-fighting medicines work by altering the growth factor messages that regulate cancer growth. In addition, some growth factors are produced in the laboratory and used in cancer treatments like biological therapy.
