Grade - Tumor grade. A cancerous tumor is often assigned a grade to classify how aggressive the tumor is, and how likely it is to grow and spread to surrounding tissue and other locations in the body. Tumor grade is determined by analyzing how abnormal the cancer cells look under a microscope. Thus, grading is a system for classifying cancer cells. Each type of cancer uses a slightly different system to gauge tumor grade. Tumor grade should not be confused with the stage (or extent) of the cancer.
