Glioma - A type of primary central nervous system tumor that forms in the glial (supportive) cells of the brain or spinal cord. There are several types of gliomas that can affect individuals of all ages. Gliomas may be either benign or malignant. Gliomas are classified according the type of glial cell in which they originate, and can include astrocytomas, ependymomas, oligodendrogliomas, and mixed gliomas (which involve more than one type of brain cell).
