Gleevec^®

Gleevec^® - The brand name for the generic drug imatinib (or imatinib mesylate), Gleevec^® is an oral chemotherapy drug. A type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor, Gleevec^® is used for the treatment of certain blood cancers, including a rare form of cancer known as Philadelphia chromosome positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Gleevec^® is also used for the treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and skin tumors called dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. Gleevec^® interferes with cancerous cells by targeting abnormal proteins these cells need in order to grow and reproduce.
