Gastric Cancer - Also known as stomach cancer, gastric cancer is cancer that develops in the stomach (the organ that holds and stores food and is part of the digestive system). Although there are several different types of gastric cancer, adenocarcinoma (cancer which arises in glandular tissue, or the lining of the stomach) is the most common.
Gastric cancer is more common among older adults, with approximately two-thirds of gastric cancer patients in the Unites States being older than the age of 65. Some risk factors associated with gastric cancer include diet and lifestyle, as well as infection with helicobacter pylori.
