Doxil® - The brand name for the generic drug liposomal doxorubicin, Doxil® is indicated for the treatment of metastatic ovarian cancer, or ovarian cancers which have recurred after platinum-based therapy. Liposomal doxorubicin may also used in combination with bortezomib to treat multiple myeloma in patients whose disease has not gotten better after treatment with other anticancer drugs.
A reformulated version of doxorubicin (another type of chemotherapy drug), Doxil® helps the main cancer-fighting properties present in doxorubicin to remain in the body and fight cancer for longer periods of time. Doxil® is given by intravenous (IV) infusion. It belongs to the group of medicines known as antineoplastics.
