Breast Cancer - A cancer that forms in tissues of the breast. It is the most common cancer among women. While breast cancer can occur in men, it is very rare. Genetic and hormonal factors are considered to be the primary risk factors for the development of breast cancer.
There are several types of breast cancer. The most common type of breast cancer is ductal carcinoma, which begins in the cells of the ducts (tubes that carry milk to the nipple). Lobular carcinoma is cancer that begins in the lobes or lobules (glands that make milk). Some other, less common types of breast cancer include inflammatory breast cancer, medullary cancer, tubular carcinoma, adenocystic carcinoma, mucinous carcinoma, papillary carcinoma, and Paget's disease of the nipple.
