Breast Cancer Treatment - Treatment regimens for breast cancer vary, depending on factors such as tumor size, type, and location, patient preferences, and more. Most patients with breast cancer have surgery to remove the cancer. Some examples of surgeries for breast cancers include: lumpectomy, partial mastectomy, total mastectomy, and radical mastectomy. Sometimes the sentinel lymph node is removed during surgery and examined to see if the cancer has spread (e.g., sentinel lymph node biopsy). Breast reconstruction can help rebuild the breast's shape after a mastectomy. Other breast cancer treatment options (which commonly follow surgery) include radiation therapy, chemotherapy and/or hormone therapy.
