Bevacizumab - A type of monoclonal antibody (a laboratory-produced antibody which attacks cancerous cells by latching onto them). A type of antiangiogenesis agent, bevacizumab works to kill tumors by cutting of their blood supply. Bevacizumab is used in the treatment of metastatic colon and rectal cancer (in combination with intravenous 5-fluorouracil-based chemotherapy). It is also used in the treatment of unresectable, locally advanced, recurrent or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. Bevacizumab is the generic drug for the brand name drug Avastin®.
